With news the nation has dodged the threat of COVID-19 again, and with Alert Level 1 in place, the Teviot Valley’s Mt Benger A&P Show is set for full steam ahead.
For anyone who has never been before, Mt Benger A&P Society Secretary Dinah Wales says she recommends getting to the show around 10.30am, and checking out the sheep and fleece sections when they first arrive.
“It is then time to explore our free entertainment area, with fun for all ages available and all for free.
“After the Pet Parade at 11.30, they can grab some lunch and head to the Ringside Lounge for some strawberries or a Pimms while they watch the equestrian action.
“A turn around the trade sites after lunch would lead in to a look through the Pavilion when it opens at 1pm, and maybe a horse and cart ride, or join in with our Agrisports.
“Bucky the mechanical bull will give a bit of a thrill (and probably a spill), and the Big Digs are a popular tradition and a great way to win prizes - all age groups catered for.
“At 5pm, our produce auction in the bar is always entertaining, and a great opportunity to pick up some prime Teviot Valley produce at bargain prices.”
The Mt Benger A&P Show will be a hit this weekend.
Dinah says the show has a whole lot of old and new entertainment planned this year, and most of it is free of charge.
When pressed, a highlight of the day she says, is the “fabulous produce auction”, held at 5pm in the Ringside Lounge. Come along to bid for some of our valley's best produce.
There will also be a stone carving workshop held throughout the day, where a lucky 10 participants will create their own Oamaru stone sculpture. This costs $100 per adult, and $60 for teenagers, and bookings can be made to [email protected]
Dinah says the show society has planned ahead this year, and straight after the show they will be launching into a large project of removing trees and tree roots that have been making the equestrian arena uneven, and then levelling and regressing the entire equestrian area.
“We thank our equestrian competitions for their patience over the last four years, and look forward to being back in 2022 with a lovely new and perfectly level arena.”
The show has all the festivities and attractions, sure to keep the whole family entertained.
As ever, the public are urged to be COVID-19 aware and scan any QR codes they see, or keep a diary at the very least.
“We will have QR tracer codes displayed throughout the grounds, and hand washing areas available at all the toilets.
Hand sanitiser will also be available at the Ringside Lounge and bar, and the Secretary's Office.”
The show is set for Saturday February 20. Gates open at 8am. Entry is $10 per adult, and children 15 and under are free.
Tickets are available at the gate. Parking is available on site, drive in via the road at the southern end of the grounds.
