MetService predictions accurate - "Central Otago may be in for a windy Easter weekend, according to MetService".
Metservice this morning issued a severe weather watch.
Severe gale northwesterlies for parts of the South Island and the lower North Island today and early Monday.
A cold front is expected to move onto the lower South Island this afternoon, then move slowly northeastwards to reach Cook Strait late Monday.
A strong northwest flow precedes this front, and Warnings and Watches for Strong Winds about eastern parts of the South Island and the lower North Island are in force.
People are advised to keep up to date with the latest forecasts in case any changes are made or further areas are added.
STRONG WIND WATCH
For Central Otago and Southern Lakes expected until 4:00 pm today.
Forecast: Northwesterly winds may approach severe gale in exposed places.
Prediction for Easter weekend from Thursday to Wednesday looks like it is an accurate one.
Cloud will be variable, but as the weekend closes in on Monday skies will cloud over ahead of another front. On Monday a typical westerly flow is established over the South Island, so Central Otago will be mostly cloudy with warm, breezy westerlies, and some rain, which should ease up for a comparatively settled Tuesday.
