The MetService has warned of Heavy snow for parts of central and southern New Zealand
An intense cold outbreak spreads farther northwards over the country tonight and during Thursday, bringing unseasonably low snow to the South Island and the lower North Island. South to southwest gales are
also possible, especially in the east from Invercargill to Wellington.
A spokesperson for the MetService says, "Snow is likely to affect many parts of the South Island causing stress to livestock, and snow is also forecast to affect many South Island roads and passes making driving conditions hazardous"
People are advised to proceed with caution and keep up to date with the latest MetService forecasts and advice from the NZTA.
This event will continue to bring significant impacts to transport, livestock and crops.
Heavy snow may disrupt travel in affected areas and could damage trees and powerlines. Cold conditions may cause stress for livestock.
