The recent rejection by the Central Otago District Council (CODC) of a residential developer’s application for a change to the district plan’s zoning rules has seen the council accused of favouring development in Cromwell over Alexandra.
Plan Change 16 was denied in favour of the passage of CODC’s own Plan Change 19, a proposal that would see widespread changes in residential density zoning in Central Otago.
CODC has been criticised for allowing a proposal by Fulton Hogan to proceed with lakeside development plans at its Parkburn quarry site while limiting development in and around Alexandra.
CODC mayor Tim Cadogan today denied any favouritism when the Central App asked whether ‘deals’ were being done to progress Cromwell over Alexandra.
