Three local sportspeople are finalists in the Central Otago Sports Awards: Patearoa curler Bridget Becker, Maniototo cricketer Eden Carson, and Alexandra cyclist Eddie Adams.
Dunstan High School student Eddie, shortlisted for junior sportsman of the year, has an impressive list of recent achievements.
He placed second in The Prospector three stage mountain bike race, partnered with Ben Oliver, came in first in the Nevis Gutbuster 2022, and first in the national cross country series for under 19s over summer.

Bridget Becker, named as a contender for sportswomen of the year, stepped into the role of skip at the World Women’s Curling Championships in Sweden after another team member became unwell.
Bridget’s display of skill, honesty, fair play, friendship and sportsmanship earned her the 'Frances Brodie Spirit of Curling Award' as voted by other tournament teams.
Eden Carson, a self described ‘farm girl’, has been to the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, came home with a bronze medal, and has been on every White Ferns tour since she was awarded a contract.
As well as playing internationally, Eden plays for the Otago Sparks and assists with developing the next generation at club trainings. Eden is up against Bridget and six other wāhine in the sportswomen of the year award.
A well known curler and advocate for the sport Peter Becker has also been named as one of the three finalists in the senior spirit of Central award.
Lauder’s Pam Walker is up against Adam Hall for the para athlete award this year.
The Manorburn Curling Club, the NZ Women’s Curling Team, and the Naseby Four Bowls team are also in the running for the team award.
The Forsyth Barr Central Otago Sports Awards are on Friday May 12 at the Lake Wānaka Centre.
