Central Otago Children's Theatre group’s play ‘Horace and the Magical Wands’ will bring mystery and magic to the Clyde Memorial Hall next weekend (February 24 -26).
Playwright Karin Halliday said the 21 children, aged 8 -12, were doing really well with rehearsals.
“We didn’t have enough speaking parts for everyone, so we made a spot for dancers to get everyone on stage to give it a go. You don’t want to turn anyone down if they are keen to try it out,” Karin said.
More than 40 hours of practice has been put in, including two hours, three times a week during the school holidays.
Many in the Central community have been involved in staging the show, which includes a castle and five friends and five ghosts to life.
Karin thanked director Pat Lines for giving up her time, Lindsay Baird for set creation and sound support, Alexandra Musical Society for costumes, Kylee Murphy and her volunteer team for makeup, Glen Van Yen Yessel, James Avenell for lighting and sound set up.
“None of this could happen if the parents dont bring the children to rehearsals…we are indebted to them for taking time out and bringing them.
“These kids need support after all their hard work. It will be a great show. Watch them all shine and be proud,” Karin said.
The play is on Friday February 24 at 7pm, Saturday February 25 at 2pm and 7pm and Sunday February 26 at 11am.
Tickets are $15 adults, $10 children, under 5 free - they can be booked through eventbrite, by contacting Karin on 027 694 4816 or cash only door sales may be available. Lollies and raffles will be for sale.
Adult actors can audition for Karin’s next play ‘Over 50 and still flatting’ on March 11 and 12, 2pm at Alexandra Primary School.
There are opportunities to act for males, females as well as for backstage crew.
