Fire and Emergency (FENZ) crews were on site within seven minutes of receiving a call to an Alexandra home this afternoon (June 18).

Two appliances from Alexandra and a tanker from Dunstan were dispatched to a kitchen fire on Larch Cr at 1.07pm.

FENZ shift manager Simon Lyford said the fire had spread into the ceiling and a second alarm was raised, meaning a crew from Omakau were called.

“The fire was extinguished with a fire extinguisher . . . and there are no reports of injuries.”

Simon said firefighters were on site working to establish how far the fire had gone and the fire was not suspicious.

The Omakau firefighters were stood down and did not arrive in Alexandra.
