Kōrero Māori – Give te reo a goJoin us in our Māori language journey through our Monday te reo Māori series.

Tēnā koutou - hello everyone.

Kei te pēhea koe? How are you going in your te reo journey?

We know all about how to say hello and greet people. This week, we’re going to review some of the ways to say goodbye.

If you are saying goodbye because you are leaving, use E noho rā.

If you are staying and saying goodbye to someone else who is leaving, use Haere rā.

These two ways to say goodbye are appropriate in most situations, including when you want to be reasonably formal. However, there are more informal, everyday ways to say goodbye.

Hei konā!  See you then! is the goodbye phrase I use most often.

We often hear ka kite anō (see you again) and mā te wā (see you later, more than likely it will be soon).  These are both great informal phrases to use.

This is the last week I will be writing the Kōrero column. It's been an honour to travel with you through this language journey.

Enjoy continuing your journey with Rowan.

E noho rā, e hoa mā. Goodbye my friends.
