Kōrero Māori – Give te reo a goJoin us in our Māori language journey through our Monday te reo Māori series.

Tēnā koutou - hello everyone.

Kei te pēhea koe? How are you going in your te reo journey?

This week, we’re going to kōrero about te huarere, the weather.

Do you remember the phrase kei te pēhea koe? to ask how someone is. Well, you can also use kei te pehea to ask about the weather:

Kei te pēhea te huarere? How’s the weather?

To reply to this question, use the phrase te āhua nei - it looks as though ...

Te āhua nei ka paki. It looks as though it will be fine.

Te āhua nei ka ua. It looks as though it will rain.

Te āhua nei ka whiti te rā. It looks as though the sun will shine.

Or, if you’ve read the weather report:

Tōna tikanga ka ua. It’s meant to rain.

Tōna tikanga ka paki. It’s meant to be fine.

Tōna tikanga ka kāpuapua. It’s meant to be cloudy.

Tōna tikanga ka huka. It’s meant to snow.

Kōrero about the weather with a friend this week, and Kia kaha te mahi tahi - Do your best to work together.

Kia pai te rā - Have a great day.
