Tēnā koutou - hello everyone.
How are you going in your te reo journey? It’s great to hear people giving te reo a go with me.
For the last two weeks we’ve talked about te māuiui - illness.
This week’s topic is for those practicing te reo with your bubble - we’re talking about purei kēmu, playing games.
He aha te kēmu? What’s the game?
There are a few card games I’ve been playing:
Hī ika - Go Fish,
Maumahara - Memory, and
Kāri whakamutunga - Last card.
Me pēhea te tākaro? How do you play?
Mātaki mai - watch (this), or
Me pēnei - like this.
There’s a few phrases I’ve been using as we play:
Tō waimarie hoki! - You’re so lucky!
You can use this simple phrase in a few ways. Just replace waimarie with another adjective like pōturi, slow or kakama, fast.
Tō pōturi hoki! - You’re so slow!
And one I seem to be using a lot:
Kaua e tinihanga! - Don’t cheat!
Again, use the phrase and just replace tinihanga, cheat with other words such as whātare, peek, or pēnā, do that, or kata, laugh.
Kaua e pēnā! - Don’t do that!
Kaua e whātare! - Don’t peek!
Kaua e kata! - Don’t laugh!
Stay safe and healthy everyone - and while you’re having fun playing games in your bubble, why not try a few simple phrases.
Kia pai te rā - Have a great day.
