A treasure trove of historic images from Blossom Festivals through the years have been uncovered and donated.

Thirty years of Blossom Festival memories have generously been entrusted to the Alexandra Blossom Festival committee.

Hundreds of photos of the festival's early years taken by Dunedin butcher Ernest Fort were recently given to the committee by Mr Fort's daughter Elaine Wishart.

Blossom Festival event manager Martin McPherson said the photos had never been seen before and were a “real treasure.”

“They’re just amazing.  To see the early floats and find people we know is really quite lovely,” Martin said.

The Alexandra Blossom Festival committee is working with Central Stories Museum and Art Gallery on ways to display the photos and help the public identify themselves in the photos.

More information regarding this will be released as it comes to hand.

The 65th Alexandra Blossom Festival runs 24 - 26 September.  For more information see  www.blossom.co.nz
