The government's big push to boost Covid-19 vaccination rates gets into full swing today with Super Saturday.

Vaccine clinics will be open across the country as health workers target a 90 percent vaccination milestone.

Some are taking it to high levels to make it an experience to protect themselves and others.

In Auckland, 300 pre-booked people will have their vaccination on board an Air New Zealand Boeing 787 Dreamliner jet, in business class.

In Gisborne, four clinics are offering live music, cheeseburgers and tickets to Rhythm and Vines.

In this country's most vaccinated region, Dunedin, there is music and food at the Octagon.

And the first Vaxathon will also be streamed live on TV3 and Māori TV from midday.

Here in Central, we are doing okay.

Super Saturday is a great day to review our local vaccination numbers.

Mayor Tim says "It is great to see two areas (Cromwell West and East) gaining a whopping 9% jump in first doses allowing Cromwell West two leapfrog Alexandra North and Dunstan Galloway in the table."

"A bit of friendly rivalry is all well and good but what these figures show us is the parts of Central best equipped to face this illness when it gets here, and get here it will."

Tim says, "Super Saturday is a big push to get ourselves closer into the “safe” zone. Remember; 90% is the floor not the ceiling, and even at that number our Health Services will be severely under pressure to cope with the Covid patients coming in alongside all the usual workload."

Column to left, first dose. Right second dose. Target 90% have had both jabs to protect us all when the virus arrives.

Just drop in at any of the clinics during the times shown.

We all want to enjoy summer - there are a number of options for you to take up on Super Saturday and help Central Otago achieve its 90 percent target. Go for a drive, take the family.

Summer is only weeks away – get your first vaccine this Super Saturday to make sure you have your two doses in before summer starts.

We’ll let you know exactly how much closer we are to achieving the 90 percent target as soon as the Ministry of Health releases numbers.

Here’s to freedom this summer!
