The MetService has issued a heavy snow watch warning for Central Otago and the Queenstown Lakes District as an active front moves slowly across the lower South Island today (Wednesday May 17) and tomorrow. 

The forecast is valid from 9pm today until 6am Thursday.

The front is forecast to bring rain to Central Otago, which may turn to snow above 600 metres, with heavy accumulations possible above 800 metres.

MetService advises that further watches may be issued.
