It will be a race of the friendly kind on Saturday (November 5) as a flock of rubber duckies dive into the Manuherikia River to raise funds for the not-for-profit Alexandra Parents Centre (APC).

The Great Duck Race is the annual APC fundraiser which helps to keep services running for families in the area, such as meals for mums, music and movement and parenting courses.

The ducks race from under the bridge on Little Valley Rd at 10am and finish at the Linger and Die park.

It costs five dollars to buy a duck and there are cash prizes (up to $500) and spot prizes to win.

An ice cream truck and coffee van will be there to keep supporters caffeinated and happy.

Organisers thanked local businesses who donated prizes, including Property Brokers Alexandra, Monteith’s Brewery Bar Alexandra, and JAE Central Otago/ Queenstown.

Alexandra Parents Centre is run by community volunteers and along with support services for families, they also bring knowledgeable speakers for sessions and arrange social family friendly events.

If you haven’t secured your lucky duck number visit Unichem Alexandra or Four Square to do so, or email: [email protected] as soon as you can.
