It was a case of cat stuck up ‘the tallest tree you’ve ever seen’ but thanks to the kindness of a local Delta employee, Whiskey the Abyssinian is home safely.

Galloway resident Kate Smithies said they had been away on holiday and upon returning home they couldn’t find their cat Whiskey.

1-year-old Whiskey was fed on Tuesday morning but then she disappeared.

“Some campers from near the Galloway hall said there is a wild cat up the top of a tree,” Kate said.

The cat stayed up the tree overnight and was rescued on Wednesday afternoon. It wasn’t a smooth rescue though according to Kate.

“We rang around some friends and they suggested trying the fire brigade.

“They [ the fire brigade] called in and tried to coax her down, but she was too high up for them to reach… they even tried to hose her down.”

Kate said they rang Delta next who sent a employee to take a look.

Delta cable jointer and line mechanic Cam Guttery used a bucket truck machine, reaching right to the very end of its extension arm to get to Whiskey.

Cam said he tried to approach the cat slowly at first as she was stuck about 13m up.

"I'm glad the cats alright, we were all pretty relieved she came down.

"My girlfriend is an arborist so she was my contingency plan," Cam said.

The cat got enough of a fright from the machinery to scamper down the tree to the ground. Click HERE to view the video.

“She took off under the Galloway hall and hid after that, then she was caught and brought home by some campers.

“She was looking scrawny after one night without food,” Kate said.

“She’s eaten and eaten and eaten since she got back home.”

Kate said everyone involved was amazing and she would like to thank Delta and the Fire Brigade for their assistance.
