Motorists driving between Cromwell and Queenstown are, again, urged to allow extra time due to ongoing delays in the Kawarau Gorge.

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) encourages motorists to plan ahead for up to three weeks of daytime stop/go points at the Kawarau River Bridge, on State Highway 6, starting from Monday, June 10.

The site will be operated by stop/go actions from 8.30am to 4.30pm, excluding weekends, while crews carry out rock bolting, meshing and minor rock scaling.

Road users can expect up to 15 minute delays when travelling through the worksite.

However, a statement from NZTA notes that the works are dependent on various factors and may be postponed at short notice.

“Thank you for your patience while crews undertake stabilisation works.”

Motorists experienced a longer period of delays at the Nevis Bluff last month, while blasting work took place.

The last time blasting work was done on the Nevis Bluff by NZTA was nearly six years ago in 2018.
