Queen Elizabeth II, who died on September 8, was farewelled in true style at the Golden View Lifestyle Village in Cromwell last Monday (September 19).
A high tea was organised for residents to gather and watch the Queen’s funeral replay on television.
Many had stayed up late the previous night to watch the funeral proceedings live, but quite a few admitted to falling asleep mid-way through. The afternoon tea was an opportunity to join together and watch the entire spectacle.
The pomp and ceremony were acknowledged with some staff donning tiaras and many residents dressed for the occasion, some in black, some more colourful - and there were plenty of jewells.
Village manager Jo Shepherd said it was an enjoyable occasion and emotions were constrained.
“I think most of our residents had watched at least some of the proceedings live – and maybe shed a tear then. The afternoon tea had a happy, celebratory feel.”

Singing “God save the King” was an adjustment for some.
