Final election lineup confirmedJust 46.83 per cent of eligible voters had their say on Central’s elected representatives.

The final results of last weekend’s local body elections (October 8) have confirmed the candidate lineup indicated in early results for all the Central Otago District roles (both councillors and community board members) as well as the new Central Otago Health Inc members.

Mayor Tim Cadogan said the new council was “smart” and “nimble” and would serve the community well as it faced a range of challenges this coming term, including major legislative reforms.

The following four candidates have been confirmed in the Cromwell Ward: Sarah Browne (1,903 votes); Cheryl Laws (1,789); Neil Gillespie (1,720); and Nigel McKinlay (1,557).

Five people have been confirmed as councillors in the Vincent Ward: Tamah Alley (2,737); Tracy Paterson (2,702); Martin McPherson (2,189); Lynley Claridge (2,113); and Ian Cooney (1,850).

Sally Feinerman (357 votes) has been confirmed as candidate for the Teviot Valley Ward.

The Vincent Community Board has four confirmed members: Tony Hammington (2,371); Dai Johns (2,266); Roger Browne (2,224); and Jayden Cromb (1,757).

The Teviot Valley Community Board has four confirmed members: Norman Dalley (527 votes); Mark Jessop (505); Russell Read (290); and Gill Booth (271).

As the number of nominations received did not exceed the number of vacancies, Tim Cadogan was declared elected as CODC mayor.

Elections were also not required for the Maniototo Ward, Maniototo Community Board, Cromwell Community Board, and Central Otago Health Inc (Cromwell Ward, Vincent Ward, and Teviot Valley Ward).

There was only one vacancy for the Maniototo Ward so the sole candidate, Stuart Duncan, was declared elected as councillor.

There were four vacancies and four candidates for the Maniototo Community Board, so Mark Harris, Rob Hazlett, Duncan Helm, and Rebecca McAuley were elected.

There were four vacancies and four candidates for the Cromwell Community Board, so Sarah Browne, Anna Harrison, Mary McConnell and Bob Scott were elected unopposed.

There was one vacancy for Central Otago Health Inc, Cromwell Ward, so the sole candidate, Britta Christensen, was elected. There were two vacancies for Central Otago Health Inc, Vincent Ward, so the two candidates, Tracy Paterson and Robert ‘Rob’ Roy were elected.

Finally, there was one vacancy for Central Otago Health Inc, Teviot Valley Ward, so the sole candidate, Caroline Tamblyn, was elected.

CODC electoral officer Anthony Morton said the final voter return was now at 46.85 per cent, from 8,072 votes (excluding special votes).
