Eat.Taste.Central – the annual celebration of food, wine and beverages in Central Otago is stepping up an extra gear for 2021.
The month-long celebration, from 24 September to 25 October, is a chance to taste, see and learn the stories of the region’s food, wine and beverage pioneers, both past and present.
Central Otago’s reputation for producing the very best of wines began 140 years ago when Jean Desire Feraud won Central Otago’s first gold medal for wine in Sydney in 1881.
For the first time during E.T.C a series of special events will celebrate this milestone at the Feraud 140 - Weekend of Wine from 1 – 4 October.
There will be special tastings, vineyard tours and a stunning long lunch above the vines for people to enjoy an extra special experience connected with Central Otago’s premium wines and food.
The Central App will continue its support of Eat.Taste.Central, alongside MiNDFOOD and Air New Zealand.
“From Cromwell and Bannockburn in the west, to Roxburgh and Millers Flat in the south, Waipiata, Naseby and Danseys Pass in the north, through Alexandra, Clyde and so many places in between, chefs, business owners and producers have been busy planning their special entries for this Regional Menu,” says Anthony (Antz) Longman, Tourism Central Otago campaign manager.
“As the days warm up and the landscape bursts back into life from the winter chill, E.T.C is about locals and visitors getting out and exploring all corners of Central Otago, visiting their favourite venues and discovering new ones and voting for their favourite dishes.”
“In our fifth year it’s great to have continued support from MiNDFOOD, Air New Zealand and The Central App.
“With the Central Otago Winegrowers Association coming on board as a key partner this year, I believe that the weekend of wine will quickly become a real highlight for the month,” said Mr Longman.
“We encourage people to gather friends and family and make plans to take a culinary road trip through Central Otago this spring.
“It’s a wonderful time of year and what could be better than fabulous food and drink served in stunning locations, and with a story to tell.”
