A 5.6 magnitude earthquake near Milford Sound was felt across parts of Central Otago late last night.
Geonet reported the quake was 5km deep and struck at 11.36pm, about 35km north of Milford Sound.
The rattle was graded ‘moderate’, enough to be felt by people across the district, including in Clyde, Chatto Creek, Millers Flat and Cromwell.

Several people shared their experience on social media, with some calling it a “little shake”, while others described hearing a noise, followed by a shake.
