Dunstan High U14s dominate rugby compDunstan High School’s U14 Rugby team has been crowned champions of the Otago Secondary School Rugby Competition.

Dunstan High School’s U14 Rugby team has won the Otago Secondary School Rugby Competition (OSSRC), with a 65-22 triumph over Cromwell College on Saturday.

After coming through the Otago-wide season unbeaten, the final was delayed by a month due to Covid-19, but that break didn’t slow the Dunstan High team.

The side went through the competition amassing 732 points for and 211 against, with an average of 60 points scored per game.

Team captain Zach Johnson says Cromwell gave it to them in the first half, in a largely even contest.

“The team was pretty tired at half-time but stuck to the game plan and fought hard to the end to get the win.”

Assistant coach Jim Moffitt says wins were constructed from a very hardworking forward pack and an exceptionally classy backline.

“Great end to the season for the U14 OSSRC, despite the month delay to play the final,” Jim says.

“The score blew out a bit in the end but Cromwell put up a good fight and it was tight moving into the second half.

“DHS finishing unbeaten for the season was a proud moment for the players , coaching team,  families and supporters. Looking forward to 2022.
