Dunstan High School’s (DHS) Pink Ribbon Breakfast run by student volunteers has netted $650 for Breast Cancer Foundation New Zealand.

DHS service committee leader Isla Nelson said the Pink Ribbon Breakfast of waffles, fruit, croissants and hot drinks was a huge success.

It was one of many breakfasts hosted throughout the district during the week.

While the menu might have looked different at each event, they all had the same end goal in mind - to raise money for the foundation, which supports the one in nine women who are diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime.

Funds raised go towards life-saving education, life-changing patient support and ground-breaking medical research.

Numbers were slightly down on last year at the Dunstan High School event, but community support for the cause was strong with people buying raffles and donating $10 each to attend the event.

Isla thanked the many local businesses and groups who supported the cause and gave generously.

Balloons decorated the classrooms and many people dressed in pink to show their support.

Julie Nelson enjoyed the waffles, fruit and maple syrup prepared by students.

Breast Cancer Foundation NZ chief executive Ah-Leen Rayner said the organisation was "blown away" by the enthusiasm and generosity of Kiwis getting behind Pink Ribbon Breakfast.

"This year we’ve seen more than 5800 events registered all over New Zealand, including 80 in Central Otago. We’re hoping this will make it one of our most successful campaigns yet!

“Every Pink Ribbon Breakfast has made a huge difference for women with breast cancer. With the money raised, we’ll be able to do even more to support patients, fund cutting-edge research and educate people about the importance of early detection.”
