Dunstan High School (DHS) and Cromwell College ice hockey players battled it out in a thrilling final at the South Island Secondary Schools (SISS) ice hockey tournament; with Cromwell winning the B grade 4 - 3 in extra time.

The junior combined team ‘The Cromwell Stars’ beat the senior combined team ‘The Dunstan Devils’ in the final of the B grade on Thursday afternoon.

Friends faced off during the tournament, while siblings also found themselves competing on opposing sides.

Tournament organisers said there were some fantastic skills, loads of development, fair play and pride on display throughout the games.

Coach Trevor Lawrence said the highlight of the week was to have two competitive school teams from Central in the tournament.

“Central Otago schools have only had two teams in the SISS since 2022, prior to that [there] was only a single combined team.”

Dunstan Devils’ Travis Roberts was awarded the top B grade goalie.

Other awards went to Cromwell Stars players Oliver Pattison as most valuable forward and Liam Sangster as most valuable defence player.

Dunstan Devils players Noah Elliott and Cam Moir were also named most valuable players.
