The Ministry of Health (MoH) has announced 19 new community cases of Covid-19 today. 

Of today's cases, 16 are known household or other contacts, one is a household contact who had not previously been identified and one is a possible contact.

Yesterday's total of 45 new community cases in Auckland was the highest it has been in some weeks, but just four of them remain unlinked.

"We're expecting another 30 or so cases in the coming days from day five and day 12 testing," Director-General of Health Dr Ashley Bloomfield says.

One of the new cases is outside Auckland, with a secondary school student in Northern Hauraki - who has been isolating - testing positive. The student has been isolating for the past 10 days and were tested around day 11 because they became symptomatic.

The total of cases in the Delta variant outbreak is now 1249. There were also six new cases in managed isolation today.

Speaking at today's government briefing, Director-General of Health Dr Ashley Bloomfield says 19 of the recent cases are linked to transitional or emergency housing.

Among today's cases is a MIQ worker at Naumi Hotel in Auckland. This case is still being investigated to determine if it is border related or part of the community outbreak.

The worker is fully vaccinated as was last tested on 14 September and this positive result was picked up through regular fortnightly testing.

Bloomfield says there were more than 11,000 tests taken in Auckland yesterday.

Suburbs of interest have been updated - Ōtara is no longer a suburb of interest, while Henderson and Papakura now are.

However, the suburbs of Clover Park, Māngere, Favona, Manurewa and Mount Wellington/Sylvia Park are still of interest.

"If you are in those suburbs, please come forward and get tested whether or not you have symptoms," Ashley says.

Testing teams in Auckland will go to about 40 transitional and emergency housing sites over the coming days to offer tests to residents there.
