Things are starting to happen on the ground in Clyde and the Central Otago District Council (CODC) has provided a timely update on work to install Clyde’s new reticulated wastewater system.
“We know there’s been a bit of a lull, but we’ve been busy lining things up behind the scenes,” the Council statement says. “COVID-19 has also impacted on our progress.”
Over the next 18 months it is planned that the wastewater mains and lateral pipes to service 235 properties will be installed across central Clyde.
The switchover from septic tank to reticulation for each property will occur later in the programme when the main pump station is commissioned.
What's Happening?
Construction to install the wastewater mains pipes for Clyde’s new reticulated wastewater system is underway.
The first mains pipes have already been installed along the entranceway to the dog park – these will eventually connect up to the pump station.
Crews will then be moving along Sunderland and Pyke streets over the next few months installing both mains and lateral pipes up to private property boundaries.
Work to install laterals on private properties will start during winter.
“We’re intending to pop into each address along the way before we get going to talk with residents so that they are aware of what’s happening and to answer any questions they have,” says Seipp Construction Ltd project manager Greg Valentine.
Traffic management will be in place in areas where work is being done. Details of this will be circulated before work begins.
The team has been working hard to accommodate the needs of the Clyde community and as much as possible to minimise disruption.
“We’ve talked with the business community and we know that business owners’ preference is for the work to be done in the business district over the colder months when things are quieter,” says Capital Projects Programme Manager Patrick Keenan.
“Our plan is also to tie in work around the school area when things are not so busy in the school year, such as in school holidays.”
“We’ll keep you updated as work moves through the central Clyde area. For a refresher on which areas of Clyde are included in stage 1 of construction work please check out the Clyde Wastewater Reticulation Staging Map.”
This project involves 5350m of mains pipes (PVC, 150-375mm in diameter), 6000m of lateral pipes (public and private) and 80 manholes.

Project Manager Greg Valentine says there will be further employment opportunities at the site.
“We will be advertising shortly for staff for all roles on the project including more school leavers who are interested in a career in construction,” says Greg.
Access to the Dog Park
While work is underway, we’ve established a safe route for people to use when taking their furry friends to the dog park.
Please stay safe around heavy machinery and follow instructions on signage or from site workers.
A route to the dog park has been put in place to the left of construction work.
Seipp Construction has established a site office adjacent to the dog park and not far from where the Clyde Wastewater pump station will be built.

Pump Station Tender
CODC is calling for tenders to construct the wastewater system pump station in the next few weeks. It’s anticipated that the pump station will need to be up and running by autumn 2022.
“Now that construction is underway, we’ll be sending you regular e-updates to keep you posted on how things are going and where construction work is happening,” the Council statement says.
The Seipp team will also be talking with residents and businesses as they move through the central Clyde area.
