Central Otago District Council (CODC) has issued conserve water notices this morning (Friday, September 22) for both Omakau and Naseby.
CODC communications officer Mary-Jo Tohill said on-going rainfall across the district meant the council was taking a precautionary measure to give communities adequate notification of potential impact on water supplies.
“The Omakau water treatment plant is currently producing water but we expect that this may change as the Manuherekia river level continues to rise,” she said.
“The Naseby water treatment plant is currently inhibited. We have sufficient storage for several days based on current demand.”

CODC asked these communities to conserve water now to extend the stored water levels and reduce the chance of a boil water notice, and to share the news with friends, neighbours, and any elderly in their communities.
