Community sessions planned for Tarras Airport Christchurch International Airport Ltd has announced two community drop-in sessions on March 23 and 24 to discuss the proposed Tarras Airport with the public.

The community will be allowed to discus the proposed Tarras International Airport development with the developers at two community drop-in sessions organised for March 23 and 24.

The original dates for the drop-in sessions were postponed due to last week’s COVID-19 Alert Level restrictions.

In an email sent out by Christchurch International Airport Ltd, the developers of the proposed airport in Tarras, it announced the new drop-in session dates.

“Now the Prime Minister has announced most of New Zealand is moving down to COVID Alert Level 1, we are able to reschedule the Community Drop in Days planned for March at the Tarras Community Hall,” the statement says.

“These will now be held on Tuesday 23 and Wednesday 24 March 2021 - times below.

“We're looking forward to meeting as many of you as possible so we can: Let you know what we’ve heard so far; Give you the chance to add feedback; Outline our next steps; and Answer any questions we can.

“We know there is huge interest in details, like runway alignment and flight paths, and rest assured that we are looking forward to sharing that information during 2021 as we complete the necessary studies and modelling.

“In the meantime, it'd be great to see you so please drop in at a time that suits you.”

In a statement to The Central App last week, a Christchurch International Airport spokesperson says the developers are thankful for any feedback from the community.

“We are grateful so many people have taken time to meet with us so far and shared their thoughts on our project.

“We have always said we would reflect back what we’ve been told, as part of our commitment to ongoing engagement with communities, mana whenua and other stakeholders.

“We will continue to engage with the community during 2021 and beyond, but the two Drop In days will show the local community the feedback we’ve heard so far.

“They will also give people another chance to meet us, add to the feedback, ask questions and understand the project’s next steps.”
