Cold temperatures and sprinkle of snow for Lindis PassThe heavy rain of yesterday across Central should ease today, but temperatures will be colder than the mild 20’C of Monday mid-morning.

Yesterday’s cold southerly slammed Central and today’s high is forecast to be a chilly 12’C according to the MetService.

A road snowfall warning was issued yesterday for six hours from 2am - 8am today (Tuesday) for the Lindis Pass (SH8).

Snow is forecast to lower to 800 metres last night, and 1 to 2 cm of snow may settle on the road near the summit during Tuesday morning.

If you are travelling in the area, keep an eye on the passes, and weather conditions.

MetService meteorologist Katie Hillyer said it’s a real cold snap.

“Tuesdays maximums in the east coast of the South Island about 10 degrees less than Mondays.”

The rain stalls and weakens over the central South Island on Tuesday as northeasterlies build over the country ahead of a subtropical low pressure system from the North.
