Clyde residents are confused and angry a promised $50 credit from Aurora Energy, following the June 14 power outage which left them in the cold for over eight hours, has yet to be processed.

Nicky Gregory posted on social media and asked if anyone else had received their credit.

“Clyde Residents of this group - did you get your $50 credit on your power account as promised by Aurora Energy due to the unscheduled power outage in June?”

She later commented “Pretty bloody slack if you ask me. They promised it but no sign yet”.

The thread attracted over 50 comments, the majority of comments said they had indeed not received any credit thus far.

The post on social media struck a chord with Clyde residents, who are still seeking their credit after a power outage left them freezing for over eight hours in June. Photo courtesy Facebook.

Central Otago District mayor Tim Cadogan chimed in on the post and said he would contact Aurora right away.

Mayor Tim commented: “Response from Aurora CEO Richard Fletcher - "The lines charge credit / $50 credit for the incident in June will be processed in July (in the next week or so). We will issue this as a credit to each connected customer via the customers’ retailer.

“We will ask the retailer to pass on the credit at the earliest and as a priority but ultimately we don’t have control of that process as we don’t bill customers directly - but we will monitor it to ensure the credit does get passed through".”

Vincent Community Board Deputy Chair Russel Garbutt also commented.

“Something else to bear in mind. The Commerce Commission will be holding a series of meetings in our area in early August and these meetings will be advertised very shortly,” he said.

“I urge all Central Otago residents, businesses, interest groups and the like to make sure that they attend to make sure that the Commerce Commission are fully aware of our concerns and what we think of Aurora.”

The Central App contacted Aurora Energy for a comment and after two days, has not received a reply.
