Clyde school’s Theo Waite has put on a pink dress for a good cause: he’s organising a pink ribbon afternoon tea, raffle and collection buckets for Breast Cancer Foundation New Zealand (BCFNZ) this month.
Mum Charlotte Waite said the idea grew out of a list of possible activities that his school sent home to earn a ‘Spirit of Clyde’ award.
Charlotte has previously run pink ribbon breakfasts to fundraise for breast cancer so Theo had some idea of what was going to be required to pull it off.
“He’s selling tickets to his friends for $20 to come to the afternoon tea… he’s going to spend a day baking with one of the chefs at Olivers as well.”
Charlotte said he was a very charismatic, caring boy and nothing holds him back.
“He put on his sister's pink dress…and when questioned by another boy about it, he said straight away ‘it’s for breast cancer, it's a good cause’.”
Theo shows his support for the cause by wearing pink
With 40 attendees coming to her house for Theo’s invite-only afternoon tea , Charlotte has her fingers crossed for good weather.
Theo’s grandparents Andy Ritchie and David Ritchie have put fundraising buckets at Olivers restaurant and accommodation, there is also a public fundraising page online.
Clyde-based businesses have donated prizes to be raffled such as firewood, restaurant and bar vouchers and gift packs.
