Snow covers most of Central Otago this morning after a polar blast finally brought winter. Central Otago woke to a blanket of snow this morning, which has caused a number of roads to be closed.
Road crews have been working non-stop to enable locals to get to work and school as grit is laid and roads plowed.
Roxburgh has received a good amount of snow, which has caused SH8 to be shut between Alexandra and Roxburgh.

Cromwell received a decent flurry of snow.
Alexandra received a good flurry of snow which has blanketed the town, so too Cromwell.
According to MetService the forecast for the rest of the day includes scattered snow showers, clearing by afternoon to partly cloudy weather. Gusty cold southwesterlies, easing later in the afternoon.

Bella enjoys a winter snowfall in Roxburgh this morning.
Roxburgh’s Sarah Davidson told The Central App snow in Roxburgh was “pretty average” today, but driving home last night was “horrendous”.
According to Naseby’s Marielle Craighead, the town received 1.5cms of snow and it is still snowing lightly, with wind currently 5km/hr with the temperature at -1 degrees.

The Ida Valley has become a winter wonderland.

An Aspiring Highways spokesperson, snow clearing is going well on roads.
“Focus has now switched to gritting and ice prevention as temps look to be dropping as we approach daybreak.
“This is a critical time and can be very deceptive and dangerous, hence the reason for holding back on opening some areas.”
