The latest local vaccination rates are in, with Central Otago still not quite pipping the 90 percent double-dosed minimum milestone.

As New Zealand recorded its first day of triple digit new community cases (102), the calls for getting vaccinated are louder and more important than ever.

Some areas within Central Otago have reached the 90 percent minimum, while others are languishing behind.

Central Otago District Mayor Tim Cadogan says there is still a way to go to get to that double-dosed milestone, and encourages everybody to help their friends and family.

“Not that it's a competition, but I note that Cromwell West has leapfrogged Alexandra South into fourth place for the most first-dosed part of Central,” Mayor Tim says.

The latest vaccination figures (%s) as of Wednesday 20 October.

“These numbers are good but we are nowhere in the district close to the 90 percent mark of double-dosed where we can start to relax just a little bit when we think about the Delta variant getting here.

“And as I mentioned last time, that 90 percent mark is the floor not the ceiling; it is the lowest mark not the ultimate target.

“Please, let's keep encouraging those who are still hesitant to get proper advice and get themselves, and everyone else, protected from what is coming our way.”
