Good Bitches Baking is expanding to Central Otago to deliver homemade treats for those most in need of kindness, and they need more keen bakers to join up.

Head Bitch of the Queenstown and Central Otago chapter Leo Kurpuis said for the expansion to be a success they needed a few more new members in Central Otago.

“We are a community of bakers, rostered on monthly… or you can grab a roster spot that suits you using our online booking system.

“You supply your own ingredients and there is flexibility, you could only bake once or twice a year if that’s what you chose,” Leo said.

In Central Otago the charity plans to boost up other established organisations who support vulnerable people in the community.

Leo said baking will be delivered to Able minds, Age concern, the Foodbank and as the chapter grows more recipients will be added in the future.

“It will be up to them to distribute the baking themselves. Each lot of baking has a list of ingredients on it, and also a note from the baker.

He said he got involved at the start of this year, partly after baking a lot during the covid-19 lockdowns and really enjoying it.

“Everyone has their speciality… mine is dark chocolate toasted cookies with sea salt.”

Good Bitches Baking (GBB) started eight years ago in Wellington and has grown to 28 chapters around New Zealand.

The fledging charity said on its website its mission is to make Aotearoa the kindest place on earth.

About their controversial name the charity said it wants to turn the insult on its head.

In their view being a good bitch isn’t a bad thing. On their website the group paraphrases both Tina Fey and Madonna, "Bitches get stuff done".

GBB said on their Facebook page small things can make a big difference and a bit of kindness can sometimes help someone through a really bad day.

The group has around 3000 volunteers who bake for 300 organisations across New Zealand.
