Bouldering gym opens its doorsBolder Inn opens in Alexandra today.

The long wait is over, but Alexandra finally has a bouldering gym, with news the Bolder Inn is finally open today.

The brainchild of Brad Slater, the gym caters for all ages and rides on the back of the successful showing of bouldering and climbing at the Tokyo Olympics.

Bouldering refers to climbs that are protected by pads rather than ropes. Generally, that means that bouldering doesn't take you too high off the ground.

The gym occupies the old squash courts in Molyneux Stadium, which until now have been left vacant after the squash club’s move down to new premises.

Brad’s wife, Angela Connell, helps run the business and says bouldering is rock climbing for everyone.

“No need for safety harnesses with our industry standard safety crash mats and no climbs over 3m,” Angela says.

“Bouldering makes use of interesting routes that traverse rather than directly ascending.

“Bolder Inn has been professional and progressively designed as a contemporary rock climbing and confidence building facility for all ages.”

Bolder Inn is open today from 9am until late.

Open today, from 9am until late, numbers are capped at 15 people at once.

Entry on the hour, $5 per person, today only, with introduction deals on memberships available.

“I am so incredibly proud of what he has created with his bare hands and so incredibly proud of what we now have to offer the community with this, his professional and progressively designed rock climbing facility," Angela says.

“He is pumped to share it with you.”

COVID-19 precautions will be in place for safe climbing and using the facility. Climbers must bring their own shoes.

Limited edition hoodies, singlets and tees also available for purchase.
