Aviary accident leaves sole canary in Cromwell rest home

A Cromwell rest home has put a call out for additional feathered friends for residents.

Mid last week the Ripponburn Home aviary door was left open and all but one of their birds, both budgies and canaries took flight and escaped.

Ripponburn’s manager Julia Russell said they were hoping someone may have caught them or seen them.

They originally had thirty birds living in the aviary.

The single remaining bird is a yellow canary, called ‘Lucky’ who was once rescued from one of the village cats.

“We are wondering if anyone has a bird that needs to be rehomed as our residents will miss this much loved part of their home,” Julia said.

Via a facebook post appealing for help on the Ripponburn Home page, one additional canary has been donated so far, so Terry the canary will soon join Lucky.
