The musical Alexandra Musical Society (AMS) is holding auditions this weekend and are asking for people of all ages and skills including magic, circus and gymnastic skills for its production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (CCBB).
CCBB, based on the successful and cherished 1968 film featuring The Flying Chitty Car, is one of the biggest musicals AMS will produce, according to Production Manager Julie Ruffell.
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was a 1968 musical-fantasy film directed by Ken Hughes with a screenplay co-written by Roald Dahl and Hughes, loosely based on Ian Fleming's novel Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang: The Magical Car (1964).
“It is an ideal Community theatre production requiring children, youth and adults of all ages.
“There is plenty of 'featured cameos' and ensemble character work available with some 'courtly and quirky dancing' of the period. Season runs from 25 September - 1 October,” Julie says.
AMS also welcomes back Christchurch Director, Bryan Aitken.
“Bryan has directed many times before for AMS and we look forward to him directing CCBB.
“John Buchanan who has recently taken up residence in Dunedin will be returning to Alexandra to take up the Musical Director Role. John also has directed for AMS in the past.
“AMS is very happy to have Year 12 Dunstan High Student Vanessa Gallagher on board this year as Choreographer.
Auditions are being held this weekend 18, 19, 20 June at the AMS Clubrooms, 41 Enterprise Street.
Auditionees are asked to prepare a song either from the show or personal choice that shows their quality or character. Contact Julie Ruffell at [email protected] to make a booking.
