Books of all genres are being welcomed for the Alexandra Rotary Club's (ARC) 36th charity book sale.

Sale organiser and rotarian Kevin MacKenzie said the annual sale, which starts on New Year's Day, usually raises between $25,000 to $27,000.

“We’re in the third year of our commitment to support the rescue helicopter. It’s a great cause and the locals all come out and support the book sale.”

Kevin said donations so far were pretty good and the rate was steady rather than hectic, which is what ARC preferred.

His tip was to get there early on New Year’s Day to find the best items.

“On day one there is a queue outside the door waiting to come in.”

Many locals visit more than once over the four day sale, to find quality holiday reading, puzzles, records, dvds or magazines for bargain prices.

The book sale features a range of genres and categories, including children’s books, cookbooks, novels, history, science fiction and more.

Organisers will not accept old technology like video or cassette tapes, but dvds and records can be donated as they still sell.

Collections boxes are located around Alexandra at NPD, Caltex, Central Interiors, Alexandra Community House, Guthrie Bowron and Omakau Auto Centre.

The sale is on January 1 to 4, 9am-5pm at Alexandra Community Centre on Skird St.

If you have a large donation call Barry 021 450 321, Kevin 021 056 4177 or Mike 03 449 2332 to arrange collection.
