Both an ambulance and a helicopter were called to the scene of a mountain bike accident at Deans Bank yesterday afternoon (Sunday October 3).

An onlooker told the Wānaka App the rescue looked “dramatic and tricky”.

A St John spokesperson said St John was called to the incident at 2.10pm.

A helicopter was eventually called to the scene.

“One ambulance from Wānaka and one helicopter from Queenstown responded. One patient was treated and airlifted to Dunstan Hospital in a moderate condition,” she said.
