Eddie Adams’ wheels are spinning for 20 hours per week, as he aims to represent New Zealand at the cycling world championships in Scotland this August.
The Dunstan High teen has been signed to the NZ Cycling Project team, under the tutelage of fellow Alexandra based cyclist James Willamson.
Eddie (16) said the six or seven rides a week don’t feel like work.
“I love riding, I like to be competitive and I see training as an excuse to ride my bike.
“I want to go pro and get to the Olympics… this year I’m seeing results and it’s pretty exciting,” Eddie said.

He took out the national cross country (XC) mountain bike (MTB) series (for under 19) earlier this year with a second place in Oamaru and wins in Christchurch and Pirongia.
This past weekend (February 25-26) Eddie competed in the National MTB Championships at Coronet Peak.
He won the under 19 short course XC and placed third in the XC.
Eddie is riding with Commonwealth Games silver medallist from North Canterbury Ben Oliver for The Prospector (March 10-12).

Eddie is a past winner of Crankworx Summer Series in Alexandra but he’s giving the downhill Crankworx Summer Series a miss this year.
“I want to focus on cross country mountain biking and road based cycling this year.
“Local rider Cooper Milwood who rides for the YETI NZ development team is one to watch in Crankworx.”
Eddie hails from a family of riders: His older sister Maia is taking a break from university this year and working at the Christchurch Adventure Park coaching mountain biking, and younger sister Paige competes in the under 15 race circuit.
Both his parents used to race in the national cross country series.
At first Eddie was nicknamed ‘fast Eddie’, but because he keeps on getting faster his new nickname is ‘the eagle’.
