Alexandra Countdown bakery gives all clearThe May 2-4 recall was caused by metal fragments from racks in the bakery

Residents can shop for in-store bakery products at Countdown in Alexandra again as the issue with metal fragments has been resolved, the supermarket said.

All in-store baked goods sold at Countdown Alexandra from Tuesday to Thursday (May 2-4) were recalled because of the potential presence of metal fragments.

“We have now completed our investigation and found that the metal fragments had come from some racks in our bakery,” a spokesperson said.

“The issue has now been resolved and customers are absolutely able to enjoy our freshly baked products again.”

Countdown said they have not had any further customers get in touch about metal fragments, and that food safety is their absolute priority.

“We would encourage customers to reach out… if they do have any concerns.”

The Countdown customer care team is on 0800 40 40 40.
