Pioneer Energy Group is looking for a Group Accountant to join our finance team and contribute to the financial success of our organisation.


The Job

Our company has a dedicated team of finance professionals, and we need a Group Accountant to support our financial operations across our renewable energy assets.


You will play a vital role in management reporting, budgeting, forecasting, compliance, and financial analysis.


This is a full-time position of 40 hours per week, typically worked Monday to Friday between 8 am and 5 pm, based in Alexandra, Central Otago.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Assist the business with producing the annual budget and quarterly forecasts. Collaborate with operational staff to ensure accurate and timely submissions.
  • Support month-end processes and prepare regular tax and statistical compliance reports and filings.
  • Offer accounting support to operational managers, analysing monthly results and integrating financial data with operational performance.
  • Continuously improve tools and methods used for budget and forecast preparation.
  • Develop standard reports using the company's Business Intelligence tools and provide insightful analysis and commentary.
  • Assist in the preparation of management accounts and the filing of periodic taxation and statistical returns.
  • Assist the Financial Controller in developing contracts with customers and suppliers and assist in business case development, tenders, and projects.


About You

We are looking for candidates with experience in the above-mentioned fields and a proactive attitude to fit within our team.


The ideal applicant will have a strong background in financial and commercial accounting, with a meticulous approach to financial reporting and compliance.


To successfully secure this opportunity, you must have:


  • A bachelor’s degree in commerce (BCom) or an equivalent level of learning.
  • At least 3 years of experience in financial/ commercial accounting.
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS and financial reporting principles, tax compliance (specifically GST and FBT), and proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data input programs.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office programs and Business Intelligence tools, with the ability to design and create reports.


Desirable Qualifications:

  • Chartered Accountant (CA) qualification or studying towards it.
  • Experience in the energy industry.
  • Familiarity with PowerBi and Business Central applications.
