What We’re Looking For
Professional Qualifications:
- A recognised Bachelor or Master of Counselling (NZAC-accredited) or equivalent.
- Membership or eligibility for membership with the New Zealand Association of Counsellors (NZAC).
Experience & Skills:
- Proven ability to work with children and their whānau in a school setting.
- Strong understanding of child development and trauma-informed practice.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to collaborate with teachers, leadership, and external agencies.
Cultural Competence:
- Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and culturally responsive practice.
- Ability to work effectively with Māori and diverse communities.
Personal Attributes:
- Empathetic, approachable, and professional.
- Confidential and ethical in all interactions.
- Flexible and proactive in supporting student wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide individual and group counselling for students.
- Support emotional, social, and behavioural wellbeing.
- Work collaboratively with staff and whānau to create a safe, inclusive environment.
- Respond to crises and implement appropriate interventions.
- Maintain accurate records and uphold professional standards.
- Work in a collaborative team, supporting other counsellors and sharing knowledge.
