Are you passionate about building inclusive and resilient communities? Do you have experience working with a diverse range of people? We are seeking a dynamic and community-minded leader to drive Central Otago’s Welcoming Communities programme. The Welcoming Communities Officer is pivotal to the programme’s ongoing success.

This part-time 18-month role supports communities and Council to create welcoming and inclusive environments for newcomers by implementing and managing the Central Otago Welcoming Communities Programme.


This role is 25 hours a week.


In 2021 Central Otago District Council committed to a three-year Welcoming Communities Programme through the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment.


The scoping work has now been done and some exciting projects are underway.


Working closely with the Welcoming Communities advisory group, the successful applicant will be facilitating a diverse range of activities, reporting and presenting about the programme, working alongside community groups, businesses and stakeholder organisations, and encouraging our newcomers to connect and feel welcome in Central Otago.


As the successful applicant you will have:

  • Experience working with a range of groups
  • Ability to start a project and see it through successfully
  • Ability to manage stakeholder groups and build strong working relationships
  • Capability and willingness to work with a range of community groups, businesses and individuals in a positive way
  • Public relations and meeting facilitation skills
  • Time management and organisational skills
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work alone and in a team
  • Ability to whip up excitement and energy within our communities.
