Central Otago District Council is seeking an enthusiastic team player to join our Water Services Team based in Alexandra in delivering environmental and legislative compliance by collecting and analysing samples from water, wastewater, stormwater, rivers, and other sources as required by the Council.



Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct quality control checks and maintain accurate records
  • Perform filed assessments to support water quality initiatives
  • Select appropriate equipment for sampling and field work
  • Track and meet consent reporting deadlines while assisting in compliance reports and submissions
  • Ensure all sampling meets New Zealand Drinking Water Standards and resource consent requirements
  • Stay informed on regulatory updates and contribute to audits and inspections
  • Demonstrate strong communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills
  • Participate in safety audits, vehicle checks and promote a culture of safety leadership


Desired Skills and Experience

Position Requirements

  • An environmental degree, or equivalent certificates/diplomas in drinking water or wastewater sampling is preferred
  • Prior experience in water sampling, wastewater treatment, or environmental monitoring is an advantage
  • Administrative and reporting competency including strong written communication skills
  • Competent computer skills with experience in relevant programmes such as Microsoft Word, Excel and other industry related databases
