Central Otago District Council is seeking a Customer Experience Officer to join our Roxburgh team. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys variety and community interaction. You’ll provide high-quality customer service and support for Council, Visitor, and Library services, acting as the first point of contact for residents and visitors.


Work hours are casual and vary from week to week. For the right person work could be available in some of our other libraries and customer service centres.


Key responsibilities:

  • Deliver friendly, professional service in person, by phone, and email.
  • Assist with library operations: issuing and returning books, helping with APNK computer equipment, printing, and photocopying.
  • Support Council services: process bookings, lodge service requests, and handle payments.
  • Provide up-to-date visitor information about local attractions and events.
  • Help with library events and activities that engage the community.
  • Maintain a clean, welcoming environment and follow best practices for library and Council systems.


About you:

  • Previous customer service experience preferred.
  • Strong digital skills and confidence using technology.
  • A love of books and reading, plus the ability to work with small groups and children.
  • Excellent communication skills and a positive, can-do attitude.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexibility and initiative to adapt to changing tasks.
  • Friendly, courteous, motivated, and enthusiastic – with a sense of humour and the ability to prioritise tasks effectively.
