Central Otago District Council has an exciting opportunity for a Building Control Officer to join our team in beautiful Cromwell.

As a Building Control Officer, you’ll play a key role in shaping the future of our district.


Your responsibilities will include:

  • Carrying out inspections to ensure compliance with building regulations and standards.
  • Providing expert advice to builders, developers, and homeowners.
  • Processing building consent applications accurately and efficiently.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders to promote best practices in construction and design.
  • Enforcing regulations to maintain safety and quality standards in our community.


We’re seeking someone with:

  • A professional qualification in the building industry, such as:
  • Diploma in Building Surveying
  • NZ Certificate in Carpentry or equivalent
  • Craftsman Plumber and Registered Drainlayer
  • Advanced Trade Certificate in Building
  • Multi-Skilled Officers Certificate
  • Strong communication skills and confident computer literacy.
  • Good knowledge of the current building code and legislation.
  • Experience in building control functions (plan processing and inspections) – preferred but not essential.
  • A current driver’s licence.
