Central Otago District Council is seeking a dedicated and responsible individual to join our Regulatory Services team as our Animal Control Officer on a full-time basis.
This role involves working closely with the community to ensure the safety and wellbeing of animals within the district, as well as providing essential services such as dog registration and raising public awareness of responsible dog ownership.
Responsibilities:
Ensure that animals within the district are properly controlled and are not
causing harm or danger to people, property or wildlife.
Investigate and respond to “Service Requests” (complaints) from the public
about animal related incidents.
Work with pet owners to ensure that their animals are registered and well
cared for.
The successful applicant will have:
Level 2 and 4 NZQA Animal Control or equivalent experience.
The ability to interpret the Dog Control Act 1996 and Impounding Act 1955.
The ability to make decisions which are in the best interest of the community.
Investigation skills, experience with legislation and report writing.
Communication skills and the ability to gain the confidence and trust of our
customers.
Experience in animal control or related field.
Ability to think on your feet and resolve situation when they arise.
