Central Cherries:Orchard Workers

Central Cherries Clyde

Listed: 26 Feb 2023

Central Cherries is a modern, 75 hectare operational orchard, just over the hill, on the outskirts of Clyde. As we continue to grow this business, we are looking for several Orchard Workers to join the team on a permanent basis.

Reporting to the Orchard Manager, our Orchard team is responsible for ensuring that the cherry orchards are maintained to best practise / industry standards so our cherries grow into their very best potential – high quality, sweet, crunchy and red!

The duties will be those typical in the horticulture sector including pruning, spraying, tree training, harvesting and mowing. You will be required to use company equipment such as tractors, mowers and sprayers. You will also be expected to follow company rules to ensure the health & safety of yourself and others – this can include wearing PPE, safe driving practises and following standard operating procedures.

For the right person, this is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a small but efficient team which has big goals on the horizon. As we have several positions available, we have scope to size the jobs according to applicant experience. We are interested in talking to people who are new to the industry and looking to start growing their own horticultural career. For those who show promise in the sector, we are keen to offer industry apprenticeships. Equally, we are keen to talk to experienced operators who might be interested in a change or new opportunity.

To be successful in the role you’ll also need to be:

  • Self-motivated, reliable and punctual
  • Able and interested to learn, change and grow your orcharding skills
  • Able to work flexible hours, particularly November to January as the harvest waits for no one!
  • Work safely and effectively as part of a team.

Competitive wage rates are available to the right candidates.  Relocation expenses are available for candidates with previous cherries or orcharding experience who are keen to move to the Clyde / Alexandra region.

If this sounds like you, please send a covering letter and CV to the above email.

Central Cherries is a drug-free workplace: We conduct pre-employment drug & alcohol testing.

IMMIGRATION SETTINGS:

This role does not meet the requirements to support applications for work visas into New Zealand, therefore we will only considering applications from people who are already in New Zealand or have their work permit & travel already arranged.
