Listed: 26 Feb 2023

Our cherries have the best view in the world! Come join them and enjoy the best of the Central Otago region.

Central Cherries is a 75-hectare modern, operational cherry orchard just outside of Clyde, with plans to grow this further as opportunity arises. Alongside these growth plans, we have a position available for an Orchard Foreman to join the team.

The Orchard Foreman’s key role is to work alongside and support our Orchard Manager to ensure our cherries are the premium, high quality products when they’re harvested.

The role will be split into two key areas. Firstly, the Orchard Foreman will be a hands-on part of the orchard team and will be required to undertake duties typical in the horticulture sector including pruning, spraying, tree training, harvesting and mowing.

You will be required to use company equipment such as tractors, mowers and sprayers.

You will also be expected to follow company rules to ensure the health & safety of yourself and others – this can include wearing PPE, safe driving practises and following standard operating procedures.

Secondly, they will work closely with the Orchard Manager to take a leadership role within the orchard particularly around achieving orchard goals and managing people (seasonal and permanent staff).

We are keen to talk to experienced orchard workers who are ready to take the next step in the career, or to current supervisors / foreman who are looking for a change or new opportunity.

Our ideal candidate will have at least 3 seasons of cherry experience, however we are open to applications from those with equivalent summer fruit experience.

To be successful in the role you’ll also need to be:

  • Self-motivated, reliable and punctual
  • Able to create positive relationships to create a harmonious, high performing team
  • Interested in learning & sharing new orchard strategies to help develop yourself and your team
  • Able to work flexible hours, particularly in the high season (November to January) as harvest is crucial to our success
  • Work safely and effectively as part of a team.

A clean full NZ drivers license would be advantageous.

A competitive wage rate is available to the right candidate.

Relocation assistance is available for suitably qualified applicants who are keen to move to the Clyde / Alexandra area.

If this sounds like you, please apply by email with your current CV.
