Cromwell over the Lindis Pass to Omarama. Return in reverse route or carry on to Kurow then Duntroon and back to Central on SH85.
Great scenery and ride with flowing corners including The Lindis which is an alpine pass. Outstanding scenery and a challenging ride. The pass crosses a saddle between the valleys of the Lindis and Ahuriri Rivers at an altitude of 971 metres above sea level. For many months of the year, you can expect to see snow in this mountainous area - often down to the roadside. Ice can be an issue during the colder months (May to September). Once through The Lindis, you continue to Omarama. The recommended return route is Omarama to Kurow. Kurow is a small town popular with anglers as it runs along the beautiful Waitaki River. From Kurow follow SH83 to Duntroon. At this point you choose to return to central via the Danseys Pass – a gravel road with sharp bends and restricted visibility – or head to Oamaru on SH83 and then to Central via SH85. If you choose the Danseys Pass route you will be on gravel roads until you reach Naseby. From Naseby you head to Ranfurly then into Central on SH85.
